Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the mare, the rider could offer no explanation other than EKLEEL ATHBAH (FR) travelled well in the early and middle stages however, seemed to resent the hood when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the right fore-leg. Trainer Mr. S Deeb was advised that prior to the mare entering to race again he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for EKLEEL ATHBAH (FR).

On return to scale the rider advised that the gelding made a respiratory noise and for this reason he eased NAMROOD (GB) down over the concluding stages and passing the winning post shifted outwards abruptly dislodging the rider. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities, however an endoscopic examination revealed a degree of EIPH which may have affected the gelding’s performance.
