Denman Repaying Twin Hills Stud

Monday, 21 October 2019: The faith Twin Hills Stud has placed in accomplished sire Denman was rewarded with a stakes double at Caulfield and Randwick on Saturday.

Twin Hills purchased a big share and standing rights to the son of Lonhro this year with the former Darley stallion now into his first season at the Cootamundra stud.

Homebred By Darley at Woodlands Stud, Denman (Lonhro x Pleach) won nine of his 12 starts including the G1 Golden Rose among his six wins in stakes races between 1200m and 1400m.

He has been equally successful since he went to stud in 2010, siring m,ore than 300 winers of almost 800 races including 16 stakes winners.

Those black type winners include Saturday's winners Humma Humma in the Listed Alinghi Stakes at Caulfield and Deprive in the G3 Sydney Stakes at Randwick.

A half brother to the dam of this year's Golden Slipper winner Kiamichi, Denman features other Golden Slipper winners Vain, Marscay and Dark Eclipse in his pedigree.

Classy sprinting mare Humma Humma added to her excellent record for Mornington trainer John McArdle and a big team of owners in the Alinghi Stakes.

Previously stakes-placed five times and a winner of the Listed Redelva Stakes in Adelaide last season, Humma Humma's overall record now stands at five wins and six placings from 17 starts with earnings in excess of  $472,000.

She cost only $80,000 as a yearling at the Melbourne Premier Sale where she was purchased by Redgum Racing from the Flinders Park Stud draft.

Humma Humma  was bred by Bridsan Bloodstock and is s the second winner from the Bel Esprit mare Humma Mumma, a metropolitan winning half-sister to the stakes-winner Vignette and dam of the multiple winner Strela (Smart Misssile).

Humma Mumma has a yearling filly by Capitalist and was covered last spring by Zoustar.

Godolphin sprinter Deprive (Denman x Defrock by Canny Lad) was also a Darley homebred out of a full sister to the G3 winner Blackball (Canny Lad).

His second dam Excommunicate (Grand Lodge) is a half-sister to the outstanding Octagonal mare Hosannah whose six wins included the G2 Surround Stakes, G2 Queen of the Turf and G2 Magic Night Stakes and G1 placings in the Arrowfield Stud Stakes and Flight Stakes.

Hosannah is the dam of seven winners including G2 winner Altar (Commands).

Deprive  has now won seven times in 12 starts including the G3 Show County Quality and Listed June Stakes and is unbeaten in six starts at Randwick. His older half-brother Drummed Out (Commands) was also a six time winner.

Defrock has subsequently produced unraced progeny by Helmet, Foxwedge and Star Witness and produced a colt by Foxwedge last spring.

Defrock as sold by Darley to Middlebrook Thoroughbreds for $22,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Darley also has breeding success at Caulfield when the Godolphin homebred Savatiano (Street Cry x Retsina by Redoute's Choice) won the G2 Tristarc Stakes (1400m) for her third stakes success and seventh win in 25 career starts.

Also G1 placed in the Tattersalls Tiara in Brisbane in June, the 5YO mare I from Retsina, dam of the multiple Group placed Athiri (Lonhro).

Retsina is a daughter of the G1 winner Star Shiraz (Sequalo).
