Lady Evelyn  followed up a comprehensive victory in the recent Tuncurry Cup with a game win under 59kg in Sunday's Cup Prelude (1800m) at Port Macquarie.

The win gave the Jason Deamer-trained mare ballot exemption from the Port Macquarie Cup (2000m) where she is certain to face stern opposition from metropolitan stables due to the record prizemoney on offer as a result of the big stakes increases for country feature races by Racing NSW.

Ridden by Andrew Gibbons Lady Evelyn held on for a narrow win over the locally-trained Dew Drop to take her record to nine wins and eight placings from 38 starts.

Dew Drop , trained at Port Macquarie by John Sprague, also secured Port Macquarie Cup exemption with his valuable second placing.

The 5YO only won a Class 2 race at Coffs Harbour at his previous start.

Lady Evelyn's success provided Jason Deamer with a training double following the tenacious victory by War Cat in the opening event on Sunday.
