Danawi And Avilius Excel At Rosehill

Tuesday, 28 August 2018: Trainer Tim Martin reckons he has found the colt who can emulate the success of Exceed An Excel, the son of Danehill he developed into a brilliant Group One winner before he became one of the world’s leading sires.

Danawi, winner of the G3 Ming Dynasty at Rosehil on August 25, is a son of Exceed And Excel who captured the trainer’s eye as a yearling to the extent that he paid $400,000 for the colt at the 2017 Sydney Easter Sale.
Martin revealed that he was taken by how much Danawi reminded him of Exceed And Excel . The fact that Danawi’s dam is the dual G1 winner Secret Admirer added to his appeal as a future stud prospect.

Danawi  became the 148th stakes winner by Exceed And Excel with Saturday’s win coming at his fourth career start.
Martin said the colt would have his next start in the G2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on September 8 before the G1 Golden Rose on September 22.
“He's a promising horse and I hope he can go on with it from here," he said.
"We'll look at running him in the Stan Fox and then the Golden Rose and the Caulfield Guineas."
Danawi is the first foal from Secret Admirer (Dubawi) and was bred by John Muir’s Milburn Creek Stud. Martin purchased his half-brother by I Am Invincible for $520,000 at this year’s Easter Sale and he has been followed by a Snitzel colt.
Secret Admirer  is due to foal to Vancouver this spring and is booked to be covered by Churchill.
Secret Admirer is out of the unraced Secret Savings mare Secret Illusion, a half-sister to G1 winner Donegal Mist (Balmerino) and Amwaj (Marscay).
Amwaj is the dam of G2 winner Sir Dex (Dexter) and Amulet (Entrepreneur), who produced G3 winner Prevailing (Secret Savings).
Classy French import Avilius became a rare Australian Group winner for his sire Pivotal when he won the G3 Premier’s Cup at Rosehill on August 25.
The Godolphin-owned Avilius (Pivotal x Alessandria by Sunday Silence) kept his unbeaten Australian record intact after wining his Australian debut at Randwick.

Avilius  was a Listed winner when trained by Andre Fabre in Europe but his real fame came from his G2 placings behind G1 stars Cracksman and Eminent in France last year.
The gelding is one of 143 stakes winners by Pivotal (Polar Falcon) but is only the second stakes winner for the stallion in Australia, joining the Listed winner Peck.
Avilius is a full brother to G2 winner Saint Baudolino. His dam Alessandria comes from the family of G1 winner Lycius.
