Friday, 20 April 2018: The Singapore Turf Club has granted Brazilian jockey Ruan Maia a one-day visiting jockey’s licence to ride at the Group 2 Chairman’s Trophy meeting on 27 April, 2018.

Currently licensed by the Macau Jockey Club, the 29-year-old jockey is booked to ride Circuit Land for Lee Freedman in the Chairman’s Trophy, along with other rides on that day.



After beginning his riding career in Sao Paulo in 2006, Maia quickly climbed through the ranks to go and establish himself as one of the leading jockeys there, winning several Group and Listed races as well.



In September 2016, Maia moved to Macau where he immediately took the Taipa racing scene by storm. Though he started late, he quickly rose through the ladder to finish fourth on 31 winners from 220 rides.



Maia continued his meteoric rise into the new Macau 2017-2018 season, which he dominated from Day 1 to currently sit atop the premiership on 38 winners from 181 rides. His overall career tally to-date amounts to more than 400 winners.



Maia goes to scale at 53kgs.
