The 24-year-old set a new all-time goalscoring record in the competition last year but has been moved on by her New Jersey-based club as part of a blockbuster three-team trade, according to US reports.

The trade also sends Carli Lloyd, a two-time FIFA world player of the year, and US representative Christen Press to new clubs, along with other player and draft pick exchanges.

The deal is yet to be officially confirmed because not all the players involved have been informed yet.

Kerr, who is playing for Perth Glory in the W-League, has been in hot goal-scoring form at both domestic and international level.

In the NWSL - the major women's professional football league in North America - she scored a record-breaking 17 goals for the season and became the first woman to score four goals in a game.

Her career goal-scoring total in the NWSL stands at 43, more than any other player in the competition's five-season history.

Kerr has also won a litany of individual honours, including Australian Sportswoman of the Year, ABC Sports Personality of the Year, the W-League's Julie Dolan Medal and Asian Player of the Year.

She was also named in the IFFHS World Team of the Year.
