Sunlight Eclipses Her Magic Millions Rivals

Sunday, 14 January 2018: Multiple Group One winner Zoustar raced to the top of the first crop prizemoney table after his brilliant filly Sunlight eclipsed her rivals in the $2 million Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast.

Sunlight  is the only winner to date by Zoustar, the G1-winning son of Northern Meteor who went to stud in 2015.
Zoustar is standing on a year-by-year basis at Widden Stud in the Hunter Valley and Woodside Park Stud in Victoria where he covered 173 mares in 2017 on a fee of $44,000. He returns to Widden Stud in 2018.
The Tony McEvoy-trained Sunlight (Zoustar x Solar Charged by Charge Forward) has now won her three of her four starts and $1,297,200 prize money, an amount that puts him well ahead of Spirit Of Boom in the race to be leading first season sire.

Sunlight is disputing favouritism with Breeders Plate winner Performer for the Golden Slipper Stakes with both youngsters possessing a common thread as both are out of mares by the Red Ransom stallion Charge Forward.
Sunlight was a $300,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase from the Widden Stud draft by the partnership of Aquis Farm, McEvoy Mitchell Racing and Blue Sky Bloodstock.
Tony McEvoy paid $600,000 for Sunlight’s sister at the current Magic Millions Yearling Sale offered by Widden Stud. His yearlings averaged more than $277,000 at this year’s sale.
Sunlight is the fourth foal and third winner out of multiple G3 winner Solar Charged, making her a half-sister to the stakes placed juvenile winner Sheikha (Sebring) and the winner Solar Cry (Street Cry).
Solar Charged is a half-sister to the Listed Tasmanian Oaks winner Causeway Queen (Giant’s Causeway) and the stakes-placed mare Brave Soul (More Than Ready).
Solar Charged’s second dam is the Listed winner Aretha (Sir Dapper), a half-sister to Group-placed Power Symbol (Biscay), The American (Adirondack Holme) and G2 Silver Slipper Stakes placed Nun’s Chorus (Archregent).
Aretha is the dam of seven winners including the Listed winner Sir Linford (Last Tycoon) and G3 placed Soul Queen (Danehill).
Solar Charged produced a colt by Sebring last spring was again covered by Zoustar at Woodside Park in November.
Sunlight is owned entirely by female connections, who secured an additional $325,000 bonus as part of the Magic Millions’ Racing Women promotion.
It was the third time the winner of the MM Classic has picked up the Racing Women bonus.
