Sun Shining Bright For Zoustar

Tuesday, 9 January 2018: Every new sire needs a pin up first crop youngster to put his name in lights and the exciting prospect Zoustar has certainly found one in the brilliant filly Sunlight.

Sunlight  showed she is on track to emulate last year’s star filly Houtzen in Saturday’s $2 milion Magic Millions 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast with a blistering win over 1100m at the Gold Coast last Saturday.
The Tony McEvoy-trained Sunlight is a big threat to the top colts Jonker and Ef Troop after recording her second successive win on the Gold Coast track following her December 23 victory over 900m.
Last Saturday Sunlight ran the 1100m in class record time of 1:02.48 and her last 600m in 34.02 seconds, much faster than Houtzen recorded in the same race last year before she backed up seven days later to win the MM Classic with ease.
McEvoy is growing in confidence is the horse to beat in the MM Classic.
"She has pulled up fine and her lungs are clear and she is much better than when she won her previous start at this track. She is spot on," McEvoy said.
Sunlight has been based in Queensland for almost a month, a plan McEvoy adfopted to ensure she has plenty of experience on the Gold Coast track after her debut third inj the spring in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial at Flemington.
"The Magic Millions Classic is a hard race to win from the south. I wanted to give her two starts at the Gold Coast,” McEvoy said.
Zoustar , A G1-wining son of the late Northern Meteor, stands on yearly rotation between Widden Stud in NSW and Woodside Park in Victoria.
He who stood at Woodside Park in 2017 for a fee of $44,000 (inc GST) when he covered 173 mares and is expected to return to Widden Stud in 2018.
Sunlight (Zoustar x Solar Charged by Charge Forward) is the first winner by her sire, who won the G1 Golden Rose Stakes and G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes as a 3YO.
Sunlight as now won two of her three starts, earning $92,200 prize money.
A $300,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by Mitchell Racing and Blue Sky Bloodstock, Sunlight is the fourth foal out of dual G3 winner Solar Charged, making her a half-sister to juvenile winner and stakes placed Sheikha (Sebring) and the winner Solar Cry (Street Cry).
Solar Charged  is a half-sister to the Listed Tasmanian Oaks winner Causeway Queen (Giant’s Causeway) and the six-time stakes-placed mare Brave Soul (More Than Ready).
Solar Charged’s second dam is the Listed winner Aretha (Sir Dapper), a half-sister to Group-placed Power Symbol (Biscay), The American (Adirondack Holme) and G2 placed Nun’s Chorus (Archregent).
Aretha is the dam of seven winners from 11 foals to race including the Listed winner Sir Linford (Last Tycoon), G3 placed Soul Queen (Danehill) and Listed-placed Our Axeman (Timber Country).
Sunlight’s has a yearling sister by Zoustar entered for this week’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and has a colt foal by Sebring born in October.
