Having just his fourth career start, Villermont won the $250,000 race from Peaceful State (Animal Kingdom) by a head with Black Sail (Savabeel) third.
The win consolidated All Too Hard’s second place behind Pierro on the Australian second season sires standings by earnings. All Too Hard has sired 21 winners to Pierro’s 14.
Villermont , a maiden winner at Benalla on September 29, added to Purcell’s spring haul after his win in the G1 Thousand Guineas with Aloisia.
Southern Cross Breeding Ventures bred the colt, who was purchased by suspended trainer Ciaron Maher for $250,000 at the 2016 Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
Villermont will now be spelled with the G1 Australian Guineas at Flemington his likely autumn target.
Villermont (All Too Hard x Bollinger by Dehere) has now won twice from four starts, taking his prize money to $172,910.
His dam Bolinger won the G1 Coolmore Classic and is a half-sister to G3 winners Mannington (Danehill) and Sheraton (Woodman).
The late Bollinger, who died in 2016 when in foal to All Too Hard, is a daughter of Golden Slipper Stakes winner Bint Marscay (Marscay).
She produced seven foals to race for seven winners including Friesan Fire (A.P. Indy), a G2 winer in the US.
Mannington has also been a successful broodmare, producing G2 winner Romeya (Red Ransom) and the G1 Victoria Derby winner and sire Benicio (More Than Ready).
