Scrivener storms to six-shot NSW Open win

Sunday, 19 November 2017: West Australian golfer Jason Scrivener has broken through for his first professional victory, a comprehensive six-shot triumph at the NSW Open in Sydney.

Jason Scrivener has streaked away to win the NSW Open in Sydney by six shots for his first professional victory.

The 28-year-old carded a final-round six-under par 65 on Sunday at Twin Creeks Golf & Country Club to finish the PGA Tour of Australasia tournament at 24-under.

Scrivener teed off in the final group of the day with a one-shot lead over Victorian Lucas Herbert and Queenslander Daniel Nisbet but produced a red-hot finish to pull away from the field.

Herbert (70) grabbed second with a birdie on the 18th putting him at 18-under.

Ben Eccles, the 2015 NSW Open champion, was outright third a further two strokes behind.

Chris Crabtree and Blake Windred rounded out the top five and were also the best-placed amateurs finishing 16-under the card.

It was an emphatic crescendo to the tournament from Scrivener, who capitalised on his good form this year in which he's had three top-five finishes on the European Tour.

Despite his dominance, the West Australian didn't relax until the last two holes.

"It feels pretty good, I think it looked a lot easier than what it was; it's hard work to win," Scrivener said.

"After the 16th hole I figured I'd probably have to do something drastically wrong to not win.

"Even though I was playing nicely, you never know especially around here, there's bogeys and doubles to be made as well.

"It's just nice to play that well under pressure so I'll definitely put that in the memory bank. I'm stoked."

The Australian Open starts on Thursday at The Australian Golf Club in Sydney.
