Winx Has A New Baby Sister

Sunday, 17 September 2017: On the day Winx won her 20th successive race at Randwick, grand broodmare Vegas Showgirl foaled a sister to the champion mare by Exceed And Excel.

The priceless new filly, the seventh foal produced by Vegas Showgirl, was born at Segenhoe Stud in the Hunter Valley.
Winx  extended her unbeaten streak to 20 with her 13th G1 win in the $500,000 Colgate Optic Whit George Main Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.

The great Street Cry mare produced her trademark finishing burst to reel in the leaders and race away for a soft win on the line.
Connections feel the six-year-old is right on track for her main mission of the Cox Plate, and will likely have one more run before the weight-for-age championship.
A $230,000 purchase for Magic Bloodstock at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Coolmore Stud, Winx has sent her earnings soaring past $13.47 million.
Winx, a daughter of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale purchase Vegas Showgirl , was bred by Fairway Thoroughbreds, the breeding arm for John and Deb Camilleri.
As a yearling Winx was selected on behalf of owners Peter and Patty Tighe, Richard Treweeke and Debbie Kepitis by leading bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster.
Peter O’Brien, who oversees Segenhoe Stud and the interests of Winx’s breeder John Camilleri, was monitoring Vegas Showgirl (Al Akbar) during the afternoon before gave birth to her Exceed And Excel filly on Saturday night.
“Vegas Showgirl is an absolute queen to look at and ticks every box in terms of quality. We were looking at her today in the foaling unit and she just stands out every time you see her,” O’Brien told ANZ Bloodstock News.
“She passes that on to all her foals.”
With the arrival of Vegas Showgirl’s seventh foal, O’Brien revealed the champion broodmare could be destined for service in the Northern Hemisphere where she could be covered by Galileo or Dubawi.
“It is completely open at this stage and we just want to get her through foaling, but there has been some discussions about possibly sending her to the Northern Hemisphere,” he said.
“We are just hoping we get fillies out her. She has a Snitzel yearling filly who will be retained and any other filly she has John will also keep."
O’Brien said if Vegas Showgirl travels to Europe, she would be covered to Northern Hemisphere time.
Vegas Showgirl has had three foals by Snitzel, the latest a yearling filly that will be retained by her breeders.
Vegas Showgirl was crowned Australian Broodmare Of The Year for the second time in August.

The daughter of Al Akbar is also the dam of last year’s G3 Kindergarten Stakes winner El Divino (Snitzel), and an unraced three-year-old colt by Snitzel who topped the 2016 Australian Easter Yearling Sale when selling for $2.3 million to Gai Waterhouse and Blue Sky Bloodstock.
Vegas Showgirl is out of the dual winner Vegas Magic (Voodoo Rhythm) and is a half-sister to the G3-placed Black Magic Maggie (Westminster).
