The Red Bull drivers had been fastest all weekend but Vettel found some extra pace in final qualifying to take pole.

Verstappen shares the front row with him after going just three one-hundredths of a second faster than Ricciardo, who did his best lap on his last attempt but couldn't beat his teammate.

The result left Ricciardo slightly disappointed but the Australian remained confident he could win the race on Sunday.

"I'm a little envious," Ricciardo said.

"Today I will accept a little bit of defeat but tomorrrow I am still confident we will get victory."

Vettel also believed it would be a close race at the weekend and conceded he knows the Red Bulls will push him.

"I am happy we got the car where it deserved to be, then we take it from there," Vettel said.

"The car should be better tomorrow but it will be a very close race."

Kimi Raikkonen will start fourth in the second Ferrari, while the third row is locked out by the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, who have struggled for pace at the circuit.

Nico Hulkenberg is seventh in his Renault and will start alongside the McLaren of Fernando Alonso. His teammate Stoffel Vandoorne is ninth and Carlos Sainz rounds out the top 10.
