Million Dollar Mares A Fascinating Group

Tuesday, 12 September 2017: The elite band of 10 mares each bought for $1 million or more from the spectacular Teeley Dispersal the 2014 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale are a fascinating group.

Nine of the 10 are from the immediate family of champion sire Redoute's Choice. The tenth mare Estelle Collection was offered in foal to the great Arrowfield sire.
Four of the mares have since had yearlings go through the ring in Australia for a total of $3.95 million.
Two of the mares, Drifting Cube and Taste of Heaven are in the United States while Unspoken Choice is in Japan where she has a yearling colt by Deep Impact.
Several of the mares have unraced progeny in Australia.
Among them are the 3YOs Notting Hill (Pierro x Monsoon Wedding), Lankan Rupee's full brother Regal Stage (Redoute's Choice x Estelle Collection), Mujaadil (Not A Single Doubt x Unspoken Choice) and Exrated (Pierro x Rex Is A Star).
The just-turned 2YOs include Munich (Snitzel x Quench The Thirst), Set Goals (Snitzel x Your Life Style) and a Dundeel filly from Rex Is A Star.

Perhaps the best result from the Teeley Dispersal must be The Broken Shore, one of two Hussonet fillies that Shantha's Choice left at the end of her extraordinary career as a matron.
Bought for $1.9 million by Dean Hawthorne for the partnership of Arrowfield and Jonathan Munz's Pinecliff Racing, The Broken Shore produced a Fastnet Rock filly in 2014.
Named Shoals , she was retained by her breeders and is unbeaten in four starts after adding last Saturday's Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes at Moonee Valley to her two juvenile Group victories after a debut win last February.
Shoals is now one of Australia's most valuable fillies in training with a G1 win this spring in the sights of her trainer Anthony Freedman.
"If she can get a mile then a race like the Thousand Guineas is the obvious race for her,” Freedman said.
"She's got the temperament to do it. She's high quality and I'd like to think there's more improvement in her.”
The Atlantic Jewel Stakes was won two years ago by another Arrowfield filly Stay With Me on her way to success in the Thousand Guineas.
Only eight years-old, The Broken Shore has already joined her half-sisters Monsoon Wedding and Sliding Cube to expand the distaff side of the Shantha's Choice dynasty.
Shoals has a 2YO full sister and yearling full brother and The Broken Shore is foaling this spring to Medaglia d'Oro.

Redoute's Choice is on the verge of more career milestones - his 100th Group winner and 150th stakeswinner – after his daughter Ravi won the G3 Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill last Saturday.
A Kia Ora Stud home-bred, Ravi  made it Group winner number 99 for Redoute’s Choice with her two lengths win over Perizada and Daysee Doom.
A six-time winner of $406,000 prizemoney, Ravi is one of six winners out of Mambo In Freeport (Kingmambo) and is a full sister to English stakeswinner and G2 placed Elzaam.
Ravi is the second stakeswinner this season for Redoute's Choice and his 149th overall.
