Wednesday, 9 August 2017: Below is the race by race analysis looking at the full Singapore card on Friday the 11th of August, with selections and information on the main contenders.

Order Of The Sun
Order Of The Sun

RACE 1

A tricky race with one last-start winner and a few that have been poking around in the top four placings recently. MUSCULAR DRAGON (6) drops back to 1200m for his second run in Class 5 with 1kg less. SHE’S THE ONE (9) also put in a career-best performance albeit in a weak race running home in the fastest sectional 22.76. The now 4YO mare steps up to 1200m. IMMORTAL LEGACY (3) lost his maiden tag for new trainer Leticia Dragon last start at a big price. Special Rain has been able to come through that race to win last weekend to frank the form, which may not be overly strong. HOT GOLD (7) went out as favourite last start with 59kgs, drops to 54kgs with the claim of Matthew Poon. Should be a big chance.

RACE 2

A maiden race where you could potentially narrow it down to two or three runners. CAI POH WANG (2) is one of those who looks as if he has been knocking on the door for a while now, got within a length of Redoubt last start and you could argue that was a stronger race than he meets here. GOLD REWARD (3) is another who is racing like a win is near. The three times beaten favourite was slightly awkward out and then raced wide throughout. Give him another chance here. ECLAIR SHADOW (5) has been well backed on a few occasions, has trialled and steps up to 1600m. SAINT LINCOLN (7) comes from the in-form Baertschiger stable and placed third in a recent trial with the blinker-pacifiers on carrying 63kgs, lines up with 53.5kgs.

RACE 3

With the 2kg claim, the well-weighted ROYAL GUARD (5) should be the hot favourite. He was beaten for pace last time over 1100m and only got into the race in the final furlong. Extra ground should suit as should the 2kg claim for Matthew Poon. SOUTHERN MAN (1) missed the start last start and had to be used up, before weakening late. Winning trial in 60.45 since should have him ready to run well. MAJESTIC EMPRESS (2) won a 1400m race on a heavy track in New Zealand and his having her first run in Singapore. She was pushed out to win a recent trial by Malaysian apprentice T Krisna and might be one to follow in the future. STEEL CUTTER (7) is a former Malaysian galloper who might be a runner at odds worth considering. His runs haven’t been too bad and he is having his first run on the Polytrack.

RACE 4

This race is hard to sort out with runners rated from 36-22 and there’s plenty you can put the pen through. Matthew Chadwick rides MAGIC PAINT (1) who backs up from last Friday night where he was beaten 26L, however he was checked badly and nearly put over the fence, rule a line through that run, he has won course/grade/distance before. SPACE ODDITY (3) is only 1 from 19 but put in a better effort last start, won this course/grade/distance last year, 54kgs with Matthew Poon claim. BASTION (10) was okay last start for third placing but it is hard to get excited about a 24 start non-winner. Take your pick of the rest.

RACE 5
Front-running ORDER OF THE SUN (3) has a Group win on this surface to his name. He has had two recent trials including a second behind smart sprinter Aramco. First-up and should run well on the Polytrack. PREDITOR (4) ran a great race in the Emirates Singapore Derby and is now on a Gold Cup campaign. Prefer over further but he’s got quality on his side. A notable improver should be ROBIN HOOD (5) who ran well last time in wet conditions. Got too far back and couldn’t get near the winner. Loves the Polytrack surface and gets on very well with Olivier Placais. TWICKENHAM (1) ran against the likes of War Affair and Blue Swede last time where he got tired late but was beaten less than 2L. Chance with the 2kg claim for Amirul Ismadi.

RACE 6

Class dropper SUPER SIX (1) ran against a top quality line-up of sprinters last time over 1000m and ran very well. Won a similar race to this in April and should be right in the market. RED DAWN (2) is in career best form currently, beaten a whisker last time after sitting wide. Dropping back in trip is MIGHTY CONQUEROR (4) who absolutely destroyed his Class 4 rivals last start. He now boasts an impressive record of four wins from 11 starts. Hasn’t been sighted since May but he looks ready now to take the step up to Class 3. UNCONQUERED (5) is a genuine 1000m speedster. He got tired late when collared near the line. Big chance if he gets a soft lead.

RACE 7

THE WIND (1) is likely to be value with jockey TH Koh in the saddle. He has gone very well on the Polytrack in the past and is building towards a victory. The slow start cost him last time and it is well worth watching the market closely. RICH FORTUNE (4) looks to be finding his form again with some sound recent performance at Kranji D level. Up in grade here, but this doesn’t look to be the toughest Class 4. He has talent when he is at his best. COLUMBUS (3) won nicely after being well supported last time in an Open Maiden on the turf. This is going to be much harder and he tries the Polytrack for the first time. Watch the market closely. ZIPPY GENERAL (2) is the first runner for new trainer Young Keah Yong. Hasn’t got a great record on the Polytrack but he is proven at Class 4. Would be nice if he could give Young a fairy tale start to his career.

RACE 8
A race where you probably need to concentrate on the top half of the card as that is where the exposed form lies. LUCKY GIANT (1) returns to the Polytrack where he is yet to have success in 10 runs but ran into a smart type Major Tom last start when placed third, 2kg claim of benefit. JULIUS CAESAR (3) was pretty impressive winning two starts ago to lose his maiden tag. Has been freshened up since his last start effort and was beaten into 7th (5.1L) in a trial on 18/7 behind Justice Light who won at his next start. BOARD WALK (2) continues to run solid races, the 7YO veteran of 68 starts, he runs with 1kg less for this assignment and he should be competitive. SWIFT (5) was able to win in Class 5 last start but seems to struggle to win in Class 4.
