Friday Singapore Race Previews - 28/07/17

Thursday, 27 July 2017: Below is the race by race analysis looking at the full Singapore card on Friday the 28th of July, with selections and information on the main contenders.

Nova Swiss.
Nova Swiss.

RACE 1

Small field in this first race. D’Don (3) had to burn a lot of petrol to get across last time out and got swamped late. Expected to last longer if he can cross early from his wide gate. Lady Liberty (2) shed her maiden status two starts back. Ignore her last run when she returned with respiratory distress. Seems to have recovered and must be rated as one of the leading hopes in this. Rory (4) has lost a bit of his gate speed. Pacifiers off. Drawn the widest but cannot be ignored in this smaller field. Can make the board. Alaranch (6) ran improved races at her last two starts. Back in trip and wears blinker-pacifiers instead of earmuffs. Worth consideration.

RACE 2

Open race. Alrina (4) made some ground second-up to finish closer to the placegetters. Well drawn. Blinkers on. Likely improver here. Lim’s Sparkle (1) is inching close to his maiden win. Would have preferred the mile but can still make it if they roll along. Auspicious Day (7) did not go a yard in the Aushorse Golden Horseshoe. Did make presence felt at previous Legs of the 2YO series. Marble one. Not without claims. Berlinetta (8) never lived up to his forward barrier trials. Raced better without blinkers. Won’t surprise if he pops up here even if the wide alley is a worry.

RACE 3

Military Alliance (7) finally showed more competitiveness over more ground last time out. Merits consideration. Blinkers replaced with visors. Nova Spirit (2) is down in grade. Has slipped down the ratings and may bounce back to better form here. Blinkers replaced with winkers. General Conatus (4) let down when it was all over at his last run. Not without a say. Stiff task but a place is possible. Clermont Club (9) did not run a bad race at his last outing. In his element here and can fight out the finish.

RACE 4

A few emerge here. King Of War (3) has placed in two outings. Can get third time lucky even if the awkward alley is a dampener. Crazy Dreams (5) can use his gate speed to go forward. Can run a place with a bit of luck. Success Come True (11) is back from a freshen-up. Yet to score but has not been beaten that far off of late. Can improve here. Perfect DJ (7) has shown he was not without a turn of foot. Seems to need more ground. Can fill the minors.

RACE 5

Many chances in this race. Prince Darci (1) is starting to hit his straps. Came from the ruck to run fourth under three lengths off the winner Laughing Buffalo at his last outing. There is a race for him soon. Bohemian (6) finally gave a more encouraging sign at her last start. Will enjoy a ground-saving run from barrier No 1 and will appreciate the extra 200m. Perkins (5) won well last time out but he carries a lot more lead this time. The 1800m is right up his alley. Tougher but still in it with a chance. Alfonso (3) is not the worst here. Can pinch a place.

RACE 6

Open race. Don’t write Nova Swiss (3) off just yet. Showed a return to form with a barrier trial win on July 13. Blinkers replaced with winkers. Can bounce back to his best here. Pioneer Seven (8) is on the quick back-up after his good fourth to Distinctive Darci in the KRA Trophy on Sunday. Drop back to 1000m will suit him. Super Six (10) was not disgraced at his last crack at this level two runs back. Game sort who can take a hand in this. Lincoln Road (1) was very disappointing at his last run. Showed no early speed and was caught wide. Weakened in the run home. Give him another chance even if he has drawn off the track again.

RACE 7

Close contest. Justice Light (2) is in great form. Won his maiden convincingly and backed up with a solid trial win last Tuesday. Can double up. He will have to look out for a few serious challengers, though. Hidden Promise (3) can mix his form but when he is on song, he is hard to hold out. Back in trip but if they go hard in front, he will take some beating. Stirling (9) did nothing wrong at his last two starts when he found one better. Bad gate but is still worth a place bet. On his last run when a fast-finishing third to Mr Mosa, Rich Fortune (4) seems to be back in form. Include in calculations.

RACE 8

Even last race. Falkirk Lead (6) has had four runs from a break and should be ripe and ready to fight out the finish here. Lucky Justice (3) is knocking on the door. Just failed to catch Major Tom at his last outing. Will be suited by the seven furlongs. Taichi Belt (10) made a sound return to racing when a closing fourth to Lim’s Casino on July 9. Will strip fitter for this. Drawn awkwardly but he can drop back or has enough toe to cut across. Top pick. Blinkers come on Humdinger (11). Mixes his form but he can take a hand in this if in the mood.
