  Story By Simon Dinopoulos

Thursday, 25 February 2021: The Desmond Koh trained Sun Ops appears very well placed to make a winning debut when set to contest the third event at Kranji on Saturday.

Formerly trained by Gerald Ryan, Sun Ops  [Covert Ops] displayed good ability in his nine starts, collecting two wins and three minor placings.

He left Australian shores rated 91 by Timeform and while he is unlikely to get much beyond 1000m, he looks capable of working his way through the grades in Singapore.

Off the scene for close to a year (346 days), he has had the two trials in the lead up, scoring at both.

He broke the minute mark twice (rare) and notably broke the 59 second mark (58.82) at his latest trial when beating home the talented Celavi.

Worth noting the track record is 57.70, illustrating just how quick he went last Thursday.

Some concern he has to back that up just nine days later, however he is given every hope by the handicapper lining up in a Class 4 event.

From the wide draw he should look to lead for Noh and is sure to take plenty of catching.

While he is likely to improve with the hit-out, he still should prove very hard to beat.

The Steven Burridge trained Salvador  shapes as the main danger, despite being off the scene for 692 days.

A talent when right, he has  placed in eight of 11 starts and rates well on best form.

Given a number of trials in the lead up, he looks well set up to run a good race and is one to keep safe going forward.

The consistent Sky Eye  comes here on the fresh side (28 days) having bumped into the talented Tuesday last start.

While clearly no match, his effort to finish second was still solid and if able to run up to that level of performance, he has to be included in the main hopes.

Of the rest Arion Passion  appears the next in line, having only being narrowly beaten last start at this course and distance.

Good luck and happy punting.
