Australian motorsport icon John Bowe has revealed he's been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The two-time Bathurst 1000 winner, who also won the 1995 Australian Touring Car Championship, announced on Facebook he is set to begin treatment in Melbourne on Tuesday.
In total Bowe made 225 race starts during his Supercars career with 15 wins and 51 podium finishes.
"Remember a while ago I encouraged all men over 40 to get yearly check ups regarding Prostate Cancer? Well guess what?? I have been, and have now been confirmed to have it," Bowe posted.
"I feel fine and have no signs, but it's there and I must do something about it!
"So don't put it off just because you don't feel any symptoms."
The 66-year-old, who won the 1989 and 1994 Bathurst events alongside long-time friend and teammate Dick Johnson, said he is not sure what effect the treatment will have on his immediate racing plans.
But the five-time Australian Touring Car Masters champion has vowed to be at Mount Panorama for the next round of that series on February 26 to 28.
"I'll be racing at the Mountain come hell or high water!!," Bowe posted.
"I've never been one to pass up an opportunity to drive at that amazing racetrack!!"
