Comeback aerials win for Danielle Scott

Sunday, 7 February 2021:

Australian aerial skier Danielle Scott has made a triumphant return to competition after a three-year enforced layoff, winning gold in a World Cup meet in Utah.

In action for the first time since the 2018 Winter Olympics, the 30-year-old scored 90.59 points with her back double full-full to claim her fourth World Cup title.

"I am beside myself, this is crazy, it's been a long time since competing and I love this sport and this is probably the best welcome back ever," said the multiple world championship medallist, who has recovered from ACL surgery.

"Today was good, it was interesting with the conditions, but I started off training really well, put down a good qualifying jump, continued on with training and finals and put down everything I needed to.

"This is a good confidence boost for the world championships next month."

American duo Winter Vinecki and Kaila Kuhn rounded out the podium at Deer Valley.

Australian world No.1 Laura Peel finished sixth after failing to complete her nominated final jump and compatriot Gabi Ash was seventh - her best World Cup result.

Peel still leads Vinecki atop the World Cup standings.
