WHAT HAPPENED IN ROUND FIVE OF THE AFL SEASON:

* THEY SAID IT: "Tonight we were given a good upper-cut. It's no surprise to play Brisbane at the Gabba and get on the end of a bit of a whack; they've done that the last year-and-a-half to a lot of teams." - Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley after the Lions handed the Power their first loss of the season.

* STATS THAT MATTER: 1.6 - Wasteful Adelaide narrowly avoided just the second goalless first half in the club's history when Myles Poholke marked and goaled 30 seconds before halftime at Metricon Stadium. The Crows still finished the round bottom of the ladder after the previously winless Dockers scored a 20-point victory.

* MAN OF THE ROUND: Richmond's Kane Lambert celebrated his 100th AFL match in style. With 27 possessions, three goals and five clearances, Lambert was a critical factor in the Tigers' 27-point win over Melbourne.

* KEY MOMENT: Essendon led Collingwood by 27 points at three-quarter time on Friday night but the Pies slashed the margin to three points with a four-goal burst. Jacob Townsend snatched the momentum back for the Bombers, his monster tackle on Darcy Moore and goal from the holding-the-ball free kick helping seal the win.

* TALKING POINT: Hubs were the talk of Melbourne town, with all Victorian teams banished by the AFL following the state's COVID-19 spike. Carlton, Essendon, St Kilda, North Melbourne, the Western Bulldogs and Richmond will spend five weeks in Queensland, while Hawthorn and Melbourne will be based in NSW. Geelong and Collingwood will spend one week in Sydney before heading to WA.

* TRIBUNAL WATCH: Western Bulldogs defender Hayden Crozier has been offered a one-match suspension for a dangerous tackle on North Melbourne's Jack Mahony. The match day report laid against Carlton's Marc Murphy for striking St Kilda's Jake Carlisle was thrown out.

* KEY INJURIES: Dan Hannebery (StK, hamstring), Jake Stringer (Ess, ankle), Luke Shuey (WC, hamstring), Reece Conca (Fre, hamstring), Matt Rowell (GC, shoulder), Ben Cunnington (NM, back), Tarryn Thomas (NM, concussion), Cam Ellis-Yolmen (Bris, calf), Trent Cotchin (Rich, hamstring), Dion Prestia (Rich, syndesmosis), Toby Nankervis (Rich, syndesmosis), Tom Lynch (Rich, broken finger).

WHAT'S NEXT: Geelong and Brisbane kick off round six at the SCG on Thursday night, with Collingwood and Hawthorn facing off on Friday night at Giants Stadium. Metricon Stadium will host a double-header on Saturday, with Fremantle taking on St Kilda in the early match and Essendon up against North Melbourne in the night game. Metricon will double up again on Sunday, with Port Adelaide and GWS up first before Carlton take on the Western Bulldogs.
