Silvera back at Mariners after MLS trial

Thursday, 23 January 2020:

Young A-League forward Sam Silvera is back with Central Coast after a brief trial with MLS club Los Angeles FC.

The 19-year-old missed the Mariners' loss to Western United last weekend in Geelong after being granted permission to train in the United States.

While back training at Gosford, negotiations between the two clubs continue over Silvera's future.

"The two clubs will continue to work together on Sam's development and remain in communication regarding future opportunities for the player," the Mariners said on Thursday in a statement.

Silvera broke into the Mariners' line-up during last year's FFA Cup and was hailed by ex-Socceroos winger Robbie Slater as the best youngster to emerge this A-League season after a man-of-the-match display in November against Perth.

The teenager's performances led to his first senior contract and 11 A-League appearances including one goal.

Silvera has been named in the Mariners' squad to face Brisbane on Saturday at Central Coast Stadium.
