Aussie men beat US in water polo thriller

The Australian men's water polo team has staged a come-from-behind victory against the United States to win the first Test 13-12 in Brisbane,.

In the dying seconds of the match, it was Aussie Sharks captain Aaron Younger who performed under pressure to deliver the final blow to the US.

A dual Olympian, Younger said that while he was pleased with his side's win, just 200 days before the Tokyo Olympics.

"I was happy the boys were able to deliver the win in the end in front of a great home crowd with all these juniors around," he said.

"The crowd really got behind us which was fantastic. Every time we play them it's a tough match so we didn't expect anything less."

In the women's match, the Aussie Stingers went down 10-9 to the reigning Olympic American champions.

Australian women's captain Rowie Webster said she couldn't be happier with how her squad performed against the No.1 side in the world.

"We have come out of a three month Olympic training camp in Canberra so to be able to come out, our first major game of the Olympic year, its really pleasing this close to Tokyo," Webster said.
