Thursday, 14 November 2019: Ticket To Ride (NZ) (Shocking), who was offered at the 2014 Ready to Run Sale, capped her racing career with a valuable black-type win in Wednesday’s $80,000 Group 3 Valachi Downs Canterbury Breeders’ Stakes (1400m) at Riccarton.

Offered by Millfield Stud, Ticket To Ride was passed in with a $30,000 reserve.

Wednesday's victory was her eighth from 46 starts, and it boosted her prize-money earnings to $179,650. But in terms of the value of her pedigree page, a Group 3 victory next to her name means so much more than that.

The seven-year-old mare was ridden by Kylie Williams in Wednesday's fillies and mares' feature, and she charged out of the gates to take an early lead.

She lost that position during the middle stages, but regained it in the straight and then held out Belle Fascino (NZ) (Per Incanto) by half a head in an exciting finish.

"She's a great mare and tough as old boots," trainer Andrew Carston said. "It was a good decision by Peter Setchell and Margaret Christian (owners) to send her down here, and this is a fantastic result."

Williams was impressed by her mount's tenacity.

"If you put the pressure on, she will give you everything she's got," she said.

Seven progeny of the versatile sire Shocking are on offer in the 2019 Ready to Run Sale, to be held at Karaka on November 20 and 21.
