First Of The Season For Redoute's Choice

Monday, 21 October 2019: The late champion sire Redoute's Choice sired his first stakes winner for the current season and his 167th overall at Caulfield on Saturday.

The son of Danehill has sired 32 winners of 38 races this season, the latest being the Mike Moroney-trained 3YO colt Alabama Express in Saturday's Listed Gothic Stakes.

Redoute's Choice died at Arrowfield Stud in March, leaving to date 35 G1 winners.

A $280,000 Easter Yearling Sale graduate, Alabama Express  is a son of Lago Ovation (Encosta de Lago), a daughter of the stakes performer Rekindled Applause (Royal Applause) and half-sister to the dual G2 winner Rekindled Interest (Redoute's Choice).

GSA Bloodstock bred Alabama Express with Paul Moroney Bloodstock purchasing him as a yearling from the Arrowfield Stud draft. He races for Rupert and Cheryl Legh, who race him with Ballymore Stables, leading New Zealand owner Lou Petagna, B & C Thoroughbreds, David Morison and Arrowfield Stud.

Alabama Express is a member of Arrowfield's "Class of 2018" and was one of two new stakeswinners on Saturday for the crop with the Snitzel filly Akari posting a Listed win at Randwick.

The progressive Akari, traind by Bard Widdup, won the Listed Reginald Allen Quality for her second win after a maiden success at Wyong.

Akari  was bred by Arrowfield and Katsumi Yoshida's Northern Farm from the Neo Universe mare Asterix, dam of the Japanese G1 winner Aerolithe (Kurofone).

Akari's second dam Isle de France (Nureyev) was a G3 winner and dam of nine winners including Star Isle (Rock of Gibraltar), the dam of the dual G1 winner Mikki Isle (Deep Impact), currently serving his second book of mares at Arrowfield.

With such a high class pedigree Akari was purchased for $1.05 million from Arrowfield's Easter consignment by Jadeskye Racing, Brad Widdup and Andrew Williams Bloodstock before Neil Werrett took up her ownership.

Asterix produced a Redoute's Choice colt and a second Snitzel filly at Arrowfield last year before returning to Japan.

Akari is Snitzel's 92nd stakeswinner and his fourth this season. Snitzel's overall total now stands at 764 winners from 1032 runners

Other stars to win this season that were sold by Arrowfield at the 2018 yearling sales include Castelvecchio (Dundeel), Super Seth (Dundeel), Stronger (Not A Single Doubt), Wayupinthesky (Snitzel) and Missile Mantra (Smart Missile).
