Special Week For Daniel Robinson

Sunday, 29 September 2019: What a week for Daniel Robinson, the former UK jockey now making a name as a trainer in Australia.

Considering he doesn't have a big stable, landing two winners in the space of five days has served to illustrate his talent as a horseman.

Robinson followed up his success at Orange last Monday with first starter Karmazone  by winning with Dexluther  at Goulburn on Friday.

Robinson rode for a time on the flat in his native country before increasing weight forced him to try riding over the jumps before migrating to Australia

Robinson took out his NSW training licence last year and prepares a small team as a sideline to his main business of breaking in and pre-training at Orchard Hills near Hawkesbury.

Dexluther was purchased online by Robinson and his wife Alexandra and provided the Hawkesbury trainer with his first winner at Bathurst last December over 2200m.

The Written Tycoon gelding had not been successful in eight subsequent starts after his Bathurst triumph but found the 2400m to his liking at Goulburn.

"I had a gut instinct he would get further; he reminds me of a typical old-fashioned English stayer," the expatriate Englishman said.

"He is big and lean.

"Dexluther is a quirky horse, so I changed a few things around with him.

Robinson reported that his Orange debut winner Karmazone has come through his race really well and will most likely go to Canberra for his next start on October 11.

The Robinsons purchased Karmazone, a Eurozone colt out of the Pendragon mare That's Karma, for $27,000 at the 2017 Adelaide Magic Millions yearling sale with the intention of preparing him for sale as an early two-year-old at the Ready 2 Race sale in Sydney but then opted not to sell him.

"Alexandra rides Karmazone every day; he is her favorite horse," he said.

"We had planned to get him ready for the Ready 2 Race sale but took a liking to him when we got him home and decided to keep him."
