Sunday, 1 September 2019: The Australian Turf Club has joined the national thoroughbred community in sending deepest condolences to the families and colleagues of two jockeys who have died over the past 48 hours.

Jockey Mikaela Claridge died after a trackwork accident on Friday in Victoria, with jockeys around the country including those riding at Rosehill Gardens yesterday paying tribute.

Fellow jockey Melanie Tyndall died at Royal Darwin Hospital after falling during a race yesterday.

Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Jamie Barkley said: "The thoughts of the Australian Turf Club Board and staff are very much with all of those affected by these tragedies, especially the families of Mikaela and Melanie.

"Jockeys deserve great respect for the courage and skill they display whenever they go out on the track whether in training or in a race."
