Bowman's Mother Would Be Proud

Tuesday, 20 August 2019: Warrnambool trainer Daniel Bowman is looking forward to an exciting spring after his sprint find Begood Toya Mother passed his first major test in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes at Caulfield last Saturday with his sixth successive win.

The win gave Bowman a memorable first stakes win with the trainer naming the G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield on September 21 as Begood Toya Mother's next target.

He has to defy history as no Regal Roller winner has gone on to capture the Rupert Clarke Stakes.

Begood Toya Mother is the 19th stakes winner by former Danetime shuttle stallion Myboycharlie from the Kaapstad mare Lady Of Helena.

The dam of five winners and a half sister to dual G1 winner Western Red, Lady Of Helena was sold for just $600 at the 2013 Easter Broodmare Sale.

Begood Toya Mother  was initially offered at the 2015 Sydney Weanling Sale where he was passed in for $15,000 before catching the eye of Bowman at the 2016 Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale where he was knocked down to Bowman for $28,000 when offered by Donnybrook Estates.

From 11 starts he has now won seven times for $277,040 in stakes for his owners that included Bowman's mother – hence the name.

"It was only my second year buying at the sales and I really liked the look of Begood Toya Mother when I saw him in Adelaide," Bowman recaled.

"Begood Toya Mother was the second cheapest of the five yearlings I purchased that year and I can tell you there are a lot of happy owners.

"The Regal Roller has been won by some very good horses and fingers crossed he can add a Group One next month."

Bowman is also training Lady Of Helena's last foal, a Casino Prince colt who has just turned two who was purchased by a member of the Begood Toya Mother syndicate.

Myboycharlie stood at Haras du Mezeray in France this year.

His southern hemisphere progeny include the multiple G1 winner Jameka.
