The multiple G1 winner was operated on last weekend only hours after being released from quarantine and arriving at Cambridge Stud to prepare for his first southern hemisphere breeding season.

The Cartier Horse of the Year was recovering well from the emergency surgery before a setback required more surgery on Thursday.

"The surgeons at the Cambridge Equine Hospital made the call," reported Cambridge Stud's Henry Plumptre.

"They consulted a couple of international surgeons who are acknowledged experts and it was a unanimous decision that the horse should go back on the table to identify and take out whatever was causing the discomfort.

"His recovery had been going extremely well, but he had this low level discomfort and intermittent spasms.

"It was cause for concern and really began to manifest itself in the early hours of Thursday morning.

"All the clinical signs when he went into the operating theatre were very good. I know the surgeons believe that will be a massive help in terms of his recovery."

"We have a big team looking after and supporting him.

"He's not unique and there are other high profile stallions over the years which have had single and double colic surgery so it's not as if they can't recover from it.

"We're absolutely certain we've had the right advice and followed the right path."
