Surfing called off again at Bells Beach

Saturday, 20 April 2019:

The Rip Curl Pro has been put on hold for the second straight day by poor Bells Beach conditions, particularly a lack of swell.

The next call will be held on Sunday morning, with conditions expected to improve as a fresh swell comes in.

"We are expecting a new swell to fill in through the day tomorrow. Hopefully, we will have enough to get going in the morning. We are watching for that swell to come up and offer us, probably, two days of competition," World Surf League competition director Kieren Perrow said.

Only nine of the 12 men in the opening round have gone ahead since the competition period opened on Wednesday.

Lay days were also called on Wednesday and Friday.
