Monday, 18 February 2019: Godolphin trainer James Cummings’ super season with two-year-olds continued on Saturday with wins by the classy pair Microphone and Tenley at Flemington and Rosehill.

Cummings has sent out 12 2YO winners this season at a strike rate of 20 percent with 22 placings (39%) from 59 juvenile starters.
He is on target to better his 2YO results in his first full season as Godolphin head trainer in 2017/18 when he won 24 juvenile races (15%) with 54 placings (34%) from 159 starters.
Cummings won only one black type race with a 2YO in 2017/18 but this term has a G3 win and two Listed wins on the board plus the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
His classy youngsters include exciting prospects Tassort , Exhilarates , Athiri , Bivouac , Amercement  and Saturday’s winning pair Microphone  and Tenley .

Microphone became the 156th stakes winner for his champion sire Exceed And Excel when he won the Listed Talindert Stakes at Flemington while the imposing Medaglia D’Oro filly Tenley made it two wins from two starts with her dominant win over the colts in the Pierro Plate at Randwick.
Exceed And Excel is playing a big part in the Godolphin surge as he is also the sire of the Lonhro Plate winner Bivouac. Lonhro is the sire of Athiri and Amercement; Snitzel sired Exhilarates; and Tassort is by Brazen Bay.
Microphone’s (Exceed And Excel x Sung by Anabaa) recorded his second win in three starts, becoming the third 2YO stakes winner of the season for his sire with earnings of $182,750.
He is from Listed winner Sung who has produced three winners from four to race including the five-time winner Lieder (Street Cry).
Sung is a sister three time G1 winner champion sprinter Yell and is also a half-sister to Shouts (Strategic), the dam of G1 winner Holler (Commands).
Despite her pedigree and stud record Sung was sold at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale for only $70,000 to Boomer Bloodstock.
Sung is from the G2-placed Bluebird mare Vocalist, a Listed winner from the family of G1 winner Anthems (Palace Music).
Microphone will now join the Sydney stable to prepare for a lead-up race to the Golden Slipper Stakes, a race previously won by the Exceed And Excel filly Overreach.

Tenley (Medgalia D’Oro x Fratianne by Lonhro) also stood up as a worthy Golden Slipper contender with her win at Randwick.
"She's right up there with the main group," said Godolphin representative Darren Beadman.
“She is a real quality filly and there are bigger things in store.
“Sheikh Mohammed's got a lovely group of two-year-olds that we've got to work with."
It would be ironic if Tenley or another youngster by Medaglia D’Oro won the Golden Slipper now that he has finished his long shuttle career or Darley in Australia.
Medaglia d’Oro began shuttling to Australia in 2010 and served his last season in the Hunter Valley last spring.
He has made a huge impact, siring Golden Slipper winner Vancouver and Golden Rose winner Astern, both now at stud.
Overall he is the sire of 21 individual G1 winners worldwide, the majority sired in Kentucky where he now resides permanently.
