The 2018 Lion City Cup runner-up (to two-time Singapore champion sprinter Lim’s Cruiser) was again the epitome of tenaciousness as he got locked into a dogfight shortly after racing past the weakening leader Nepean (Matthew Kellady) upon cornering.

Hampered at the 300m, his main danger Be Bee (Ben Thompson) was sailing home with a rush once he was rebalanced and set alight while the back-in-form Super Fortune (Benny Woodworth) was also valiantly trying to peg Zac Kasa ($12) back.

But well ridden by first-time partner Daniel Moor, the grey gelding by Reset stuck to his guns to prevail by half-a-length from a luckless Be Bee with Super Fortune third another neck away. The winning time was 1min 9.66secs for the 1200m on the Long Course.

Winning trainer Cliff Brown said the race was not without some anxious moments when he saw his ward having so much close attention for most of the way.

“He had a lot of pressure inside (Nepean) and outside (Faaltless). They really made him earn his stripes today,” said the Australian conditioner.

“It was hard to watch, but he’s a great horse and was still impressive considering he had a few setbacks.

“I told (owner) Dr Wong he has grown a bit, has thickened up and developed into a nice horse. We’ll just manage him and take our time with him and find the right race.

“Dr Wong has been good to me, he lets me do what I want with his horses.”

Moor was a relieved man at the weigh-in as he for one felt he didn’t have things his way in the running.

“It was getting pretty tactical. I thought Nepean would take my spot in front, and that’s how it panned out,” said the Australian jockey.

“But all credit to my horse. Cliff and the boys have done an excellent job with him.

“For a horse who keeps improving, he’s done a really good job today. I got him in a beautiful rhythm, hit the front a long way out but he stuck on really well.

“I remember when Gryllsy (Craig) rode him, he was quite headstrong. I thought he had one string to his bow.

“But Cliff has done a beautiful job to take him where he is at now.”

Zac Kasa has now taken his stats to a smart record of four wins, four seconds and one third for stakes earnings past the $530,000 mark for the Zac Stable.
