Brazen Beau Colt Smashes Classic Sale Record

Tuesday, 12 February 2019: A colt by boom first season sire Brazen Beau has sold for a record price of $550,000 at Sydney’s Classic Yearling Sale, the first time a yearling has made more than half a million dollars in the sale’s 50-year history.

The Brazen Beau colt from the Dubawi mare Pouter was offered by Murrulla Stud and was purchased by Bruce Perry Bloodstock, eclipsing the previous record price of $480,000 set last year.
Murrulla sold Brazen Beau at the 2013 Classic Sale and bought Pouter for clients Warwick and Anne Doughty in foal to the multiple G1 winner at the 2017 Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale at Newmarket.
“This is a massive day for our farm,” said Murulla Stud’s Tim Nolan.
“We don’t have a lot of numbers and there’s a lot of bigger farms that this happens to regularly.
“For a little farm like us, it’s hard to explain how big this is.’’
Brazen Beau’s first crop 2YOs are racing this season and include the unbeaten Golden Slipper Stakes favourite Tassort and the classy winner Accession, runner-up in the $2 million Millenium at Warwick Farm last Saturday.
Pouter was a Sydney winner of two races and has already produced three winners from four foals to race.
She is a half-sister to the G1 placed stakes winner Excelltastic from a deep family of US black type performers.
The demand for Brazen Beau’s youngsters saw him finish Book 1 with the two top lots and leading sire by average ($247,857).
The second top lot of the sale was the colt by Brazen Beau from Rose of Hallowell (Commands) purchased by Laceby Lodge for $480,000 from the Aquis Farm draft.
Aquis bought Rose Of Hallowell for $200,000 in foal to Brazen Beau.
Book 1 of the Classic Sale ended with a clearance rate of 81% and an average of $76,701.
Newgate Farm was the leading vendor by aggregate for the second consecutive year and Wentworth Stud was leading vendor by average for three or more sold.
