The Singaporean handler, who is at his second year of training, admitted to slightly being taken aback when the three-year-old son of Dream Ahead shot out from the widest gate (No 11) under apprentice jockey Chin Chee Seng to lead the pack.

“It’s a bit of a surprise that he won,” said Young of his 30th winner.

“Honestly, I didn’t think he would have that early speed, because he doesn’t show me much in his trials or at trackwork.

“I believe he has got some sort of ability, so today, I got the boy (Chin) to ride a forward race and try his best.

“Even though he was quite strong towards the end of the race, I didn’t put much work into him before the race.”

The Australian gelding had three trials (all ridden by Benny Woodworth) at Kranji coming into his first race in the $85,000 Restricted Maiden race over 1000m on the Polytrack, but they were nothing to shout about.

Furthermore, most of the runners including $11-favourite Federation (Vlad Duric), Diamond King (Lim Aun Kean, $17) and Gold Star (Michael Rodd, $31) have all got race experiences under their belt, which probably translated into the better market support.

My Dreamliner  had a lukewarm support of $51, and the only other greenhorn Archie (Erasmus Aslam) was friendless at $163, who is trained by trainer Saimee Jumaat, and owned by ex-Kranji handler Brian Dean.

Bustled up by Chin early, the Tang Weng Fei-owned gelding led from Scooby Dooby Doo (Glen Boss) and Diamond King rounding the home turn.

Under Duric’s strong urgings, the Mark Walker-trained Federation, who had two placings from four starts in Australia, came from out wide to race past Scooby Dooby Doo at the 250m, but My Dreamliner showed no signs of stopping to go and stroll in by two-and-a-half-lengths from Federation.

Gold Star ran on, but could only finish third another one length away. The winning time was 59.73 seconds for the 1000m on the Polytrack.

Chin was at his fourth win of the year and his first for Young.

“He gave me a very good feel all the way and I think this horse has got a lot of speed,” said the Malaysian, who is indentured to Australian trainer Daniel Meagher.

“I thank the owner and trainer for putting me on this horse, and I finally got a win for Young.

“Once he matures, I think he can improve a bit further and step up in distance. He will have a good future.”

My Dreamliner has earned more than $50,000 in prizemoney for Tang at his first win.

Ol Mate Buzzer brought up a double for Young when he took out the $38,000 Kranji Stakes D race over 1000m in Race 5 under Rodd.
