Football Federation Australia's search for a new technical director has ramped up with the appointment of a three-person panel to lead the hunt.

Former Matilda Rae Dower, former Socceroo Tony Vidmar and Professional Footballers Australia chief executive John Didulica will form the panel.

They will also be advised by Socceroos coach Graham Arnold, his Matildas counterpart Alen Stajcic and the Asian Football Confederation's technical director Andy Roxburgh.

Belgian Eric Abrams stood down as FFA's technical director in July, with the governing body declaring at the time it would use his departure as an opportunity to review Australia's youth development practices and structures.

The panel is due to meet for the first time next week, with a replacement for Abrams to be decided by November.

"We are looking for a strong leader who can harness this passion, pull all parts of the ecosystem together to provide players with the best football environment to ensure our Matildas and Socceroos can compete with the best in the world," said Emma Highwood, FFA's head of community, football development and women's football.
