Veteran Wins For Former Shuttle Sire

Monday, 10 September 2018: Barely remembered former shuttle sire Consolidator had his moment at Moonee Valley last Saturday when his 9YO son Magic Consol won the G2 Dato Tan Nim Chan Stakes.

Consolidator, a son of Street Cry, was a G1 winner in the US and stood in Australia for two seasons in 2006 and 2008.
He has sired eight stakes winners in North America and Europe but Magic Consol is his only black type winner in Australia.
Magic Consol  is out of the Shalford mare Shally’s Magic, a six-time winner from the family of Full On Aces, Impending, Drawn and Mnemosyne.

Shally’s Magic, who has produced three winners including the Flemington winner Snaparazzi, is from the unraced Spirit Of Voodoo (Rhythm), also the dam of the G3 performer Spot Of Magic (Military Plume).
Magic Consol is trained at Horsham by Paul Preusker and is his first G2 winner. The veteran gelding is raced by a group that includes his breeder and original trainer Barbara Marshman.
“Magic Consol was the last winner I trained, winning a maiden at Horsham in 2013 before handing him over to Paul,” Marshman recalled.
Marshman trained for over 40 years and won the 1976 George Ryder Stakes with Superior Air.
“I’ve scaled right back and only race a couple and breed a couple these days including a half sister to Magic Consol,” Marshman said.
Preusker has ruled out a Cox Plate bid by Magic Consol despite the race, formerly the JF Feehan Stakes, being recognised as a major stepping stone Moonee Valley’s major race.
Winners of both races have included Strawberry Road, Rubiton, Our Poetic Prince, Sunline, Northerly and El Segundo.
The Dato Tan Chin Nam provides the winner with automatic entry into the Cox Plate but Preusker says he will lower his sights and aim Magic Consol at the G2 Crystal Mile on the same day.
Magic Consol is a Moonee Valley specialist, his seven starts at the track producing three wins and two seconds.
Overall his record stands at 13 wins and 14 placings from 58 starts for $724,265 in stakes.
