Curraghmore celebrated a second stakes winner in Australia on the day when Theanswermyfriend (High Chaparral) won the Listed Penny Edition Stakes at Morphettville.
Australian-bred Unforgotten  (Fastnet Rock x Memories Of You by Galileo) was $NZ360,000 purchase at the 2016 NZ Bloodstock National Yearling Sale by Chris Waller Racing from the Curraghmore draft.
The Fastnet Rock/Galileo cross has produced 50 winners from 62 runners (81%), with 16 stakes winners (26%) including seven G1 winners (11%).
Bred at Coolmore Australia, Unforgotten was purchased by leading agent Guy Mulcaster for $NZ360,000 as a yearling on behalf of trainer Chris Waller and a syndicate that includes Francis and Christine Cook and Bruce Mathieson, a group that raced four-time G1 winner Preferment.
“We’ve been buying for the same core group for the past six or so years,” Mulcaster said. “We usually purchase around four to six yearlings for them annually.”
“We were attracted by the Fastnet Rock/Galileo cross. There were three with that cross in the sale and she was the least expensive of the three.”
Unforgotten, a G1 winner of the ATC Oaks in April, has won six of her 11 starts for prize money of $1,240,770.
She is one of three winners out of Memories Of You, a half-sister to G1 winner Matiara (Bering), G2 winners Pyrus (Mr Prospector) and Marathon (Diesis) and Listed winner Precious Ring (Bering).
Memories Of You is also the dam of the Listed-placed Special Memories.
Unforgotten’s second dam is the Listed winner Most Precious (Nureyev), dam of the G1 French 1000 Guineas winner Matiara (Bering), from the European Listed winner Miss Summer (Luthier).
Memories Of You has a yearling colt by No Nay Never and is due to foal to Air Force Blue this month with plans to have her covered by Fastnet Rock again this year.
Theanswermyfriend  (High Chaparral x Blowin In The Wind) cost $NZ70,000 at the 2015 NZB Premier Sale at Karaka and took his earnings to almost $500,000 with his victory in Saturday’s Listed Penny Edition Stakes at Morphettville.
From the family of the G1 Irish Oaks winner Moonstone (Dalakhani), Theanswermyfriend has now won three of his five starts for trainer Darren Weir.
Theanswermyfriend has had 23 starts for seven wins and seven placings and $498,525 prize-money. The Penny Edition was his second stakes win, having previously captured the Listed Sofitel at Flemington.
Theanswermyfriend is part-owned by All Blacks coach Steve Hansen.
