Country Racing Mourns Loss Of Tom Patton

Sunday, 2 September 2018: The NSW southern districts racing industry is mourning the loss of popular racing identity and former bookmaker Tom Patton.

Patton died on August 30 at the age of 89.
The Wagga resident was a bookmaker, primarily in the Riverina region, for more than five decades.
He started working as a bookmaker’s clerk in 1956 before becoming a bookmaker in 1961 fielding on harness racing.
Within nine months he began working at thoroughbred meetings.
Mr Patton leaves behind his wife Eunice, his son, current Wagga-based bookmaker John, and daughter Julie.
On his retirement he was honoured by the Murrumbidgee Turf Club in his home city with the Tom Patton Cup that is run each April.
His son John, now 40, commenced working as a bookmaker in 2005 and is now one of the leading bookmakers in southern NSW.
Patton is survived by wife Eunice, son John and daughter Julie.
