Aussie Sally Pearson joins athletics board

Thursday, 23 August 2018:

Olympic gold medallist Sally Pearson has jumped the first hurdle on the path to life after running with her appointment to Athletics Australia's board.

The Australian track star, who shut down retirement rumours in the wake of withdrawing from the Commonwealth Games with an Achilles injury, said the sport's growth and athlete welfare would be her top priorities in the role.

"As an athlete and my own coach, I have insights into what it takes to achieve international success at the highest level, I am hoping to help the sport by contributing at the board level," Pearson, 31, said in a statement on Thursday.
