Corumbene Stud Keen For Street Cry Mare

Monday, 16 April 2018: A mare by Winx’s late sire Street Cry made the top price of $300,000 on Day 2 of the Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale.

Ghenwaa, in foal to Golden Slipper winner Sebring, was offered by Yarraman Park Stud and was purchased by Corumbene Stud’s George Altomonte.
Altomonte bred Sebring.
“She’s a lovely mare. She’s a Street Cry, has been well mated, I think she’s a good buy,’’ Altomonte said.
“She checks out pretty well. We’re thrilled to be adding her to our broodmare band.’’
Ghenwaa was one of 176 Select Race Fillies and Broodmares to sell at an average of $31,039 with a clearance rate of 85% and gross of $9,684,300.
The day’s leading buyer was Kingstar Farm, which purchased 10 lots including Tale of the Cat mare Pampurr for $90,000 from Coolmore Stud.
Kingstar’s Matthew Sandblom said he was buying mares to support his own stallions including Lord Of The Sky and Bull Point as well as Russian Revolution, which he has a share in.
“We’ve got a couple of stallions to launch this year…we need to support our own stallions so we’re here shopping around,’’ Sandblom said.
The second top price was Encosta De Lago mare Perfect Persuasion, knocked down to Michael Wallace on behalf of China Horse Club for $250,000.
She is a sister to champion filly Alinghi.
