Winx - The Magic Began At The Gold Coast

Monday, 16 April 2018: Champion mare Winx is clearly the greatest of all Magic Millions success stories.

It began when her dam Vegas Showgirl was purchased by Colm Santry on behalf of the Camilleri family's Fairway Thoroughbreds for $455,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale from Dormello Stud.
Vegas Showgirl  was offered straight off the track by Dormello after she had won seven races in New Zealand including two Listed events. She was also Group placed and earned black type in Sydney.
A daughter of Al Akbar, Vegas Showgirl won two races at two and trained on to win another five at distances up to 1400 metres. She is a half-sister to the Group placegetter Black Magic Maggie.

Winx , by Street Cry, was raised and sold through the draft of Coolmore Stud for Fairway Thoroughbreds at the 2013 Magic Milions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where she was purchased by Peter Tighe’s Magic Bloodstock for $230,000.
On Saturday Winx demolished her rivals in the G1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick to complete back to back victories in the $4 million feature and extend her winning streak to 25 races to equal legendary sprinter Black Caviar record of the longest feature race winning sequence in history.
She also extended her world record to 18 G1 wins, the most since the introduction of the pattern system, and sent her prizemoney spiralling to just shy of $19 million.
Winx is one of six named foals out of Vegas Showgirl, who was crowned Australian Broodmare of the Year for the second time last August.
She is also the dam Boulder City, an unraced 3YO colt by Snitzel who topped the 2016 Australian Easter Yearling Sale when selling for $2.3 million to Gai Waterhouse and Blue Sky Bloodstock.
Vegas Showgirl is out of the dual winner Vegas Magic (Voodoo Rhythm) and is a half-sister to the G3-placed Black Magic Maggie (Westminster).
Vegas Showgirl produced a filly by Snitzel in 2016 which has been retained to race by John Camilleri and last spring foaled another filly by Exceed And Excel.
