Tuesday, 20 March 2018: Key information from the stewards reports from the Sydney and Melbourne race meetings on Saturday March 17.


[b]Rosehill:[/b]
Setsuna  (Race 3): The filly beat just one rival home when beaten 11L in the Magic Night Stakes but she returned with multiple lacerations to the off-hind leg. Setsuna will be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again.

Akasaki  (Race 5): The gelding had a day to forget in the Maurice McCarten Stakes. He raced wide without cover for most of the race and was found to be distressed and making an abnormal respiratory noise. A veterinary clearance, including the results of an endoscopic examination, will be required before he can race again.
Nieta  (Race 5): The mare drifted a long way back in the McCarten before making late ground for a 1.2L sixth. Jockey Craig Williams said it was his intention to go back from a wide gate but soon after straightening was required to shift to the outside of runners in order to find clear ground. It wasn’t until near the 200m that Nieta gained some room but Williams said her run had come to an end by the 100m and she did not finish off.
Calculated  (Race 6): The colt was last home in the Phar Lap Stakes after being eased down. Calculated was found to 1/5 lame and requires a vet clearance before racing again.

Shumookh  (Race 6): The filly was favourite for the Phar Lap and led them up but weakened for a 3.4L fifth. Jockey Tim Clark said the filly raced like a tired horse and had come to the end of its preparation. A veterinary examination showed a poor post-race recovery.
Lovani  (Race 9): Punters who backed Lovani had a hard luck tale after the mare never found clear running. She was awkwardly placed close to the heels in the straight and could not be fully tested over the concluding stages.

[b]Flemington:[/b]
Deja Blue  (Race 1): Failed to beat a runner home in the day’s opener. She was found to be lame in the right hind and suffering a slower than normal recovery. She requires a vet clearance before racing again.
Luqyaa  (Race 2): The filly had excuses for her last place finish beaten more than 12L. She was found to be lame in the right fore and cannot race until cleared by a vet.
Metronome  (Race 4) was second favourite for the Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes but could beat only one home. No abnormalities were found with jockey Stephanie Thornton of the opinion the filly had come to the end of its preparation.

Tosen Stardom.

Tosen Stardom  (Race 5): The Group 1 winner and favourite disappointed when last of the five, 7.5L behind stablemate Humidor. Neither rider Brad Rawiller or trainer Darren Weir could explain the performance and a sample was taken for analysis.
