In-form spinner Nathan Lyon has been named to captain the Prime Minister's XI in a Twenty20 match against England on February 2.

Lyon terrorised the English batsman during the recent Ashes series, taking 21 wickets at an average of 29.23.

The match will be played on Manuka Oval in Canberra, where Lyon worked as a curator before his Test career.

"It's a tremendous honour to be selected to captain the Prime Minister's XI and captain alongside the likes of past greats including Brett Lee, Michael Hussey and Ricky Ponting," said Lyon.

"Obviously Manuka Oval holds a special place in my heart and I really look forward to the challenge of taking on England in the T20 format with what I'm sure will be an exciting group of players."
