Hockeyroos draw again with Spain

Friday, 19 January 2018: Australia's women's hockey team have drawn with Spain again in the third match of their five-Test series in Perth.

The Hockeyroos had several late chances to force a winner but have been unable to get past Spain for the second consecutive match in Perth.

Both sides traded goals in an exciting first quarter of the 1-1 stalemate with Grace Stewart opening the scoring 10 minutes in for the hosts.

Stewart barely had time to celebrate before Spain replied through Belen Iglesias.

Australia had a chance to regain the lead with a penalty stroke in the second term but acting captain Karri McMahon forced her shot wide.

Jodie Kenny, back in the squad after the birth of her first child, had the best of the second-half chances for the Hockeyroos but the Spain goalkeeper was equal to the task.

"It was definitely a step forward which was a positive," Kenny said. "There's a lot of things that we can do better, like score goals.

"We need to put it in the net and put away teams like this. I think it's about sticking those passes, basic skills, being efficient in the circle and punishing them when we get those opportunities."

The sides meet again at Perth Hockey Stadium on Saturday before Sunday's final clash.
