Another G1 Winner For Fastnet Rock/Galileo Cross

Sunday, 14 January 2018: Coolmore’s champion sire Fastnet Rock was responsible for a notable double at the two feature race meetings in Australasia on Saturday.

In New Zealand the exciting three-year-old Age Of Fire  provided the son of Danehill with his 32nd Group One winner and 126th stakes winner when he won the Levin Classic at Trentham.
Fastnet Rock was also in the frame at the Gold Coast where his 4YO son Tumultuous  won the $1 million Magic Millions Trophy for the Chris Waller stable.

Te Akau Racing’s Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards-trained Age Of Fire (Fastnet Rock x Dragon's Tail by Galileo) had finished second behind stablemate Embellish (Savabeel) in the G1 NZ 2000 Guineas at Riccarton and won over 1400m at Ellerslie prior top Saturday’s success.
Age Of Fire is now one of the favourites for the G1 New Zealand Derby (2400m) in March and is likely to take on the older horses ahead of the Ellerslie classic.
Richards said the G1 Herbie Dyke Stakes under weight-for-age conditions at Te Rapa on February 10 appealed as the next target for Age Of Fire.
Age of Fire was purchased by Te Akau principal David Ellis at the 2016 Sydney Easter Yearling Sale for $400,000 from the Erinvale Thoroughbreds draft and has now won three of his six starts.
He is out of the unraced Galileo mare Dragon’s Tail, whose three foals to race have all been winners.
Dragon’s Tail is out from the Soviet Star mare Zaitoona, a half-sister to G1 winner Fly To The Stars (Bluebird) and stakes winner Fallen Star (Brief Truce), the dam of the G1 winner Fallen For You (Dansili).
A yearling sister to Age Of Fire will be offered by Hallmark Stud at this month’s New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale.
Age Of Fire is the sixth G1 winner by Fastnet Rock from a daughter of Galileo, a direct cross that has produced 15 stakes-winners in total and 26.3% stakes-winners to runners.
Dragons Tail has never been to a stallion other than Fastnet Rock. She produced another filly by him last spring and was then covered again by the champion sire.
Tumultuous was the first of two winners for the Chis Waller stable at the Magic Millions meeting when he grabbed a last stride over the mare Sedanzer in the MM Trophy over 2200 metres.
Tumultuous (Fastnet Rock x Boisterous Lady by Rivotious) was a $350,000 yearling from the Magic Millions sale ring in 2015 with Saturday's win his fourth in 21 starts and taking his earnings to more than $728,000.
“We had early aspirations of him being a Derby horse but that didn’t work out, so this is just as good, a million dollar race,” Waller said.
Tumultuous was selected for connections by bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster.
Fastnet Rock had a great year in 2017 with 29 stakes winners.
Fellow Coolmore sire So You Think, the champion son of the late High Chaparral, sired his fifth stakes winner when the exciting 4YO Care To Think won the $1 million Magic Millions Cup at the Gold Coast.
The Matt Dunn-trained Care To Think (So You Think x Slippery Madam) was one of the cheapest buys running on the Magic Millions program costing only $16,5000 as a yearling.
Care To Think  has now won six of his 11 starts including his last five in succession and $840,000 prize money for a big syndicate of owners after he was selected by Dunn‘s bloodstock agent Neil Jenkinson at the 2015 MM National Sale.
“There were a lot of people who bought little shares and they split those up into smaller shares,” Dunn said.
“He’s the best horse I’ve had. He’s very special and if I can train him properly and keep him in one piece, who knows where he could end up.”
So You Think ceased shuttling in 2014 and stands exclusively at Coolmore Australia in the Hunter Valley.
