The Australian-bred mare gave jockey Jake Bayliss a maiden G1 success and had her breeders Rushton Park cheering when she raced away for a brilliant length and a half victory.
Rushton Park will offer a Helmet half-sister to Volpe Veloce at the Gold Coast sale later this month.
Newgate Farm sold Volpe Veloce , by resident sire Foxwedge, for $120,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale to New Zealand’s Lyndhurst Farm.
She was then offered at the 2015 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale at Karaka where she made $NZ240,000.
Foxwedge has 15 yearlings set to go under the hammer at the 2018 Gold Coast Yearling Sale. Both of Foxwedge's G1 winners Foxplay and Volpe Veloce were sold at the Gold Coast.
The winner of 10 of her 13 starts and $NZ464,000, Volpe Veloce (Foxwedge x Bardego by Barathea) is a star for the Graham Richardson and Gavin Parker stable at Matamata.
Her earlier feature race wins include the G2 Eight Carat Classic, G3 Eulogy Stakes and Listed Castletown Stakes.
Co-trainer Graham Richardson said the mare would now head to the G1 Telegraph Handicap at Trentham and mentioned that Melbourne's Newmarket Handicap could be a possible target.
Volpe Veloce is one of nine named foals out of the G3 winner Bardego. She is a half-sister to the stakes winner Delago Bolt (Delago Brom) and two other winners.
Her stakes-placed second dam Devil’s Gold (Bellotto) produced eight winners from 11 foals to race, while her third dam is a half-sister to the stakes winner Thai Jewel (Lunchtime) and G2 placegetter Kai Time (Lunchtime).
