Saturday, 18 November 2017: The last-placed Sydney FC have come back twice before substitute Remy Siemsen's winner against defending W-League champions Melbourne City.

Sydney FC have earned their first points of the W-League season with a last-gasp 3-2 upset of Melbourne City.

The last-placed Sky Blues twice came back, before substitute Remy Siemsen finished off the defending champions at Allianz Stadium, in the process thwarting their attempts to displace Brisbane at the top of the table.

Saturday's match was a meeting of former friends, as ex-Sydney stalwarts Kyah Simon and Alanna Kennedy returned to their old hunting ground for the first time since moving interstate at the start of the season.

Had Sydney star Lisa De Vanna, formerly of City, not been absent for personal reasons, the fixture might have carried even more tension.

A goalless start ended in drama when Sydney went down and then levelled, all in first-half injury time.

Elizabeth Ralston put the ball into her own net, before Kylie Ledbrook saved her teammate's blushes, pouncing on a weak goal-kick from Melissa Hudson and lobbing the City goalkeeper from the top of the box.

It didn't take long, though, before City regained the lead via Matilda Larissa Crummer, who latched onto Rhali Dobson's cross to execute a clinical volley.

Sydney skipper Teresa Polias restored parity again, exchanging slick passes with Chloe Logarzo before unloading into the top-right corner.

The goal woke Sydney up and they pressed City numerous times, Dobson returning the favour by rattling the crossbar.

But Julia Vignes was on the ball - both figuratively and literally - with an excellent reverse pass to play through Princess Ibini, who found Siemsen just in time to stroke home the winner.
