The crowd at Rosehill racetrack cheer as the winner crosses the line, despite the race having no horses, jockeys or shirts - just firefighters.

First past the post was Doyalson firefighter Scott O'Brien who along with his four competitors accepted a $3000 donation to the Children's Hospital at Westmead from the Australian Turf Club.

The calendar has raised more than $2.3 million for various charities since it was established in 1993 to support the Children's Hospital Foundation.

Mr O'Brien says the firefighters visit the Children's Hospital at Westmead to spend time with the kids and see the impact of donations.

"It's also great to go there and see the fabulous work all the doctors and nurses are doing, and also all the extra equipment they've managed to buy based on the funds we've given them," he told AAP.

The firefighters sprint entertained punters between races at the Girls Day Out at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse on Saturday, where The X Factor 2011 winner Reece Mastin also performed.

Mr O'Brien says about two hundred fire fighters apply to be in the calendar each year, making it a tough selection process.

"It's a bit stressful leading up for it because it's quite a competitive thing, being only 12 months in there," he said.
