William Haggas expecting Second Thought to put up bold Newbury show

Friday, 22 September 2017: Second Thought returns to action in Friday's Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Cup Stakes at Newbury.

William Haggas' three-year-old made rapid progress on the all-weather in the spring, winning at Lingfield on Finals Day.

He then faced what now appears to have been a near-impossible task in taking on Harry Angel in the Sandy Lane at Haydock and while he was no match for the impressive winner, he beat the rest easily enough.

That race took place on firm ground, though, and Second Thought needed time to recover.

"Second Thought  came back jarred up from the Sandy Lane," said Haggas.

"He's fine now and I'm sure he'll run a good race.

"I think he's effective over six and seven furlongs. We've got him in the sprint at Ascot on Champions Day, but that might be shooting a bit high, we'll just see.

"There are options over seven furlongs as well for him after this, so we'll be guided by how he runs here."

Taking him on is Sir Michael Stoute's Dream Of Dreams. Always highly regarded by Kevin Ryan, he showed nothing first time for his new yard but won last time out at Lingfield by five lengths.

Richard Hannon runs three - Tabarrak, Tupi and George William - while Hugo Palmer's Chipchase winner Koropick and Roger Charlton's once-raced Princess De Lune are others of interest in the 12-runner field.

Also on the card is the historic Haynes, Hanson & Clark Conditions Stakes in which Hannon runs Goodwood scorer Bon Scotte, Palmer is represented by White Mocha and Marcus Tregoning, who has a decent record in the race, runs newcomer Khazaf.
