Friday, 22 September 2017: A capacity field of Cups hopefuls take centre stage at Caulfield on Saturday.

Caulfield hosts nine races on Saturday including a pair of Group 3 events.

It is Race 7, the MRC Foundation Cup (2000m) which creates the most interest with a number of runners in the field holding entries for both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.

It is the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Stampede  who holds favouritism following his last start win at Moonee Valley.

The progressive stayer is quoted at $4.60 to continue on his winning ways.

Another lightly-raced type in the market is Abbey Marie  who caught the eye late in the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley a fortnight ago when second to Bonneval .

It is no surprise to see Darren Weir-trained runners prominent in betting with Amelie’s Star at $6.00 the most fancied with Big Duke  ($10.00) and Articus  ($12.00) some of the first double figure chances.

Harlem  profiles as another key each way hope, quoted at $11.00 following his eye catching first up display in the Heatherlie Stakes at this course three weeks ago.

A capacity field of mares does battle forty minutes later contesting the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m).

There is presently a three way battle for favouritism in the event between Fuhryk , Ravi  and Missrock .

Missrock appears particularly well suited under the Set Weights plus Penalties conditions of the event as does the Group 1 placed Prompt Response  who is currently quoted at $8.50.

The quadrella commences with Race 6, the Listed Testa Rossa Stakes (1200m).

Darren Weir’s Everest-bound sprinter Brave Smash  is an odds on favourite in the Testa Rossa Stakes where he can account for a similar quality of field to which he dispatched of a fortnight ago in the Chandler Macleod Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Stablemate El Divino  was runner up on that occasion and does at least meet his last start nemesis 1.5kg better at the weights.

Brave Smash

The Group 1 placed Keen Array  also comes out of the same race where he ran fifth.

The five-year-old could be an improver though third up returning to Caulfield where he possesses an excellent record.

Racing at Caulfield on Saturday culminates with Inglis Supports Riding For The Disabled Association Victoria Plate (1400m).

Jamaican Rain  has turned heads so far this campaign, winning her two runs by a combined margin of more than 10 lengths.

The daughter of Manhattan Rain faces a substantial class rise third run from a spell however it is expected she will take it in her stride with the mare currently a $2.90 favourite.

Second favourite Fragonard  is a more proven mare who comes off a strong first up win at Moonee Valley.
