Thursday, 21 September 2017: Jordan Spieth has Australian coach Cameron McCormick at this week's Tour Championship as he eyes a second $US10 million FedEx Cup win.

Jordan Spieth believes the presence of Australian coach Cameron McCormick at this week's Tour Championship will aid his quest to win a second FedEx Cup title.

Leading the FedEx standings heading into the US PGA Tour's playoffs finale, 24-year-old Spieth is the heavy favourite to bank another $US10 million payday in Atlanta after capturing the series in 2015.

The American world No.2 has summoned Texas-based Melbourne native McCormick, who only travels to select Tour events, to ensure his preparation is flawless.

"Cameron's here and he doesn't come that often, so we're really trying to dial stuff in while not overworking," said Spieth of McCormick, his long-time coach.

Spieth admitted he "overdid it" in the lead-up to the US PGA Championship in August, where he had a chance to complete golf's career grand slam.

So the Texan has reverted to a lighter practice regime similar to the British Open in July, where he bagged a third career major.

"We had a really great plan that we put in place at the Open Championship when Cam was there; practising and maintaining strength," said Spieth.

"It may sound like I'm 24 and I shouldn't worry about that, but you can really tell the difference physically and mentally by the weekend. There is a fine line."

In an ominous sign for the 30-man field, 2015 Tour Championship winner Spieth says he relishes East Lake Golf Club's bermuda greens and undulating fairways.

"You have a lot of uneven shots into these greens, you have a lot of uneven lies and it creates more feel. That's similar to Augusta and I think that's why I play well there," said 2015 Masters champion Spieth.

"I really like this golf course; I love the bermuda. I grew up on greens similar to this."

How he can win the FedEx Cup: As a top five seed, Spieth is guaranteed the FedEx Cup with a Tour Championship win. He also has a reasonable chance of winning with a top-five result and can finish as low as 29th at East Lake and still clinch the series.
