Brick By Brick claims Blenheim honours at Fairyhouse

Thursday, 21 September 2017: The ultra-consistent Brick By Brick got back on the winning trail in the Ballyhane Blenheim Stakes at Fairyhouse.

Jessica Harrington's juvenile had only won one of his previous six starts, but has been second three times and has never finished out of the first four.

Stepped up to Listed class for the first time in his career, the son of Big Bad Bob was a 5-1 shot in the hands of Shane Foley and after travelling powerfully for much of the six-furlong contest, he finished strongly in the testing conditions to prevail by two and three-quarter lengths.

The Ger Lyons-trained Gobi Desert was the 8-11 favourite to follow up his debut success at the Curragh last month and while he came up short, he was not disgraced in finishing second.

Harrington said: "He ran in a nursery last time and we thought he had a lot of weight so we held on to him. I don't think he liked that.

"Today he just let him flow and he loved it. He was always going easy and got the trip really well. I'm delighted with him.

"I was a bit worried about the ground and we nearly withdrew him."
